World Card Making Day was an idea originally conceived by Paper Crafts magazine as National Card Making Day, and was primarily intended to create a sense of community among its readers.  However, the day created such a buzz and elicited such a positive response that it has now been adopted by card makers around the world as a way to showcase and celebrate our craft.  It is traditionally held the first Saturday of October, kicking off the busy holiday card-making season.  This year, it will be celebrated on Saturday, October 5th.

Card making is so much more than just another hobby.  

The act of creating a handmade card can bring immense joy to the artist as an outlet for her creativity, a way to relax and unwind from the stress of everyday life, and a tangible expression of his feelings.

Card making is the ultimate expression of love. 

It says to the recipient, “I care enough about you to give freely of my time and energy.”  In this age of email and texting, when the trend is to communicate in ever faster and easier ways, this is a profound statement about the value of the connection between the giver and the recipient.  The handmade card can become a cherished treasure, a gift in itself, and a way to build, strengthen and celebrate the relationship between two people.  Is it any wonder, then, that papercrafters create cards more than any other type of project?
